Your Questions About Uk Tourists Visa

Sharon asks…

How long does a UK tourist visa last?

I’m an Australian citizen, looking to visit my friend from the United Kingdom for around 3 or 4 months, and I’m not sure what kind of UK Visa to apply for

Pip answers:

You don’t need a visa. As Australian passport holder you can get leave to remain on arrival at the United Kingdom provided that you meet the general entry requirements:
• you intend to leave the United Kingdom at the end of your visit;
• you have enough money to support and accommodate yourself without working or help from public funds, or you and any dependants will be supported and accommodated by relatives or friends;
• you can meet the cost of the return or onward journey.
You must also show that you do NOT intend to:
• take employment, produce goods or provide services, including the selling of goods or services direct to members of the public;
• undertake a course of study;
• marry or form a civil partnership, or give notice of marriage or civil partnership.
For how long you may stay depends on the decision of the U.K. Border Agency officer on duty. General visitors can get leave to remain for up to 6 months.

Ken asks…

What is the standard amount of money required to support yourself in UK per day as per the UK Tourist Visa?

I am a student in the UK and my boyfriend who works in Qatar wants to visit me. The last time he applied for the visa, he was told that he did not have enough money to support himself during his stay in UK and did not submit evidence of other income. He earns QR 8000 per month and also has other personal savings. Can someone please tell me how much he needs to have in his account??? Please 🙁

Pip answers:

The United Kingdom has not set up a certain amount of money required for a general visitors visa for the purpose of tourist travel. It depends on personal circumstances, the number of dependants, the type of booked accommodation. Some other countries in Europe have set fixed amounts which should be used as a general guide only. Croatia requires a tourist visa applicants to have access to at least €50 [~£43 or QR250] per day of stay plus the costs for accommodation and return-flight. France requires at least the amount of the minimum wage rate per day in France which is annually established by the government. For 2011 this amounts to €63 [~£54 or QR314]..

Mary asks…

If given a 6 month visa from indonesia to UK – does the 6 months begin from date of issue or date of entry?

My partner is applying for a UK Tourist Visa now – however, we are not planning to get to UK until beginning of May but travel through Asia first. As a result am applying now – just want to know whether the 6months starts straight away or when we actually plan to arrive in UK in 3 months time.

Pip answers:

Six month period begins when you enter UK. When you go through the custom, the officer would stamp the length of time that you are allowed to stay in the UK. However, it is usually six months for any people as long as there are proofs for tourism only.

The Visa may have an validation date for that. Check it, however, it is usually a year or slightly longer.

So, don’t worry about when to come round, however, if in doubt, like the other said, check with the VISA office.

BTW, a warm welcome from the UK.

James asks…

Can you get another UK tourist visa after the first one has expired?

My girlfriend is Thai she has just got a 6 month tourist visa that runs out in July. Can she apply for another Tourist Visa when this one runs out? and is she likely to get one?

Pip answers:

Alot will depend on how long she has been in the UK for .

Was she granted a 6 month Tourist Visa and she has basically been the UK for the whole 6 month duration.

If the answers ‘Yes’,then ‘No’ she probably wont get another visa,she will have to go back to Thailand ,leave it a while then apply again.

If she had a 6 month Visa ,and just went for a months holiday ,came back on the agreed dates etc,then ‘Yes’ she could probably get another.

You will have to contact the embassy there ,and have a chat to someone who can advise you.
