Your Questions About Uk Banks In Us

Maria asks…

Does anyone know how much it would cost in bank fees to wire about 300 US dollars from a US bank to a UK bank?

My bank account is with Royal Bank of Scotland. Would the money transfer be better off going via PayPal?

Thankyou in advance!

Pip answers:

Banks charge customers different amounts based on the level of their Balance so just ask the sender to inquire. Pay Pal will cost more since both the sender and the receiver pay

Lizzie asks…

Is there a US Dollar account offered by a UK bank where you get a US style ABA number/Routing code?

I am wondering if there is a UK bank that offers a US Dollar account where you get a US style ABA number/Routing code, so it is as if the bank is physically located in the US. I am aware that many UK banks offer US Dollar accounts, but most of them are based in the UK and only accept payments from the US via Swift, I am looking for one that can be based in the US with a US style ABA number/Routing code

Pip answers:

Barclay’s used to do them. They were tied to their US subsidiary and had ABA routing codes. I had to enquire through the branch manager and he had to ring around to get the particulars as he and none of the local staff were even aware of them.

I lived in UK for about 7 years in the 80s and 90s and had one of those accounts with Barclay’s.
